The last qualifying contest before
semi-finals and finals for The American Showcase Division.
Dancers must be American citizens 18+ years old or hold a
green card. There will be lead/follow slow and fast rounds.
The top 3 couples will move on to the next contest.
Champions'
Balboa
$60/cpl
This division has a 2-3 minutes time frame. Lifts and
drops are allowed but not required. Tempo is slower than
140bpm. Lindy is not allowed.
This division is open to any style of dancing
performed by solo or duo dancers. All dancers must have total
involvement in entire piece of choreography. Time limit is 2-4
minutes. Couples swing is not allowed.
This division is open to any style
of dance performed by 3 to 4 dancer. All dancers must have
total involvement in the entire piece of choreography. Time
limit is 2-4 minutes.
Cabaret $150
5+ dancers This division is open to 5 or more
dancers who may perform any style of dance for 2-4 minutes.

couples who have or placed in national and international
Lindy events. This division is run it one heat. Anything goes.

Jack & Jill - Jack $20 Open to leaders who have won or
placed in national and international level competitions.
Leaders get a blind draw on their partner. Limited to an even
number of competitors. Judged as a couple

placed in national and international level competitions.
Followers get a blind draw on their partner. Limited to an

Classic (no lifts or
throws) $60/cpl Couples in this division
concentrates on footwork, musicality, teamwork, timing,
showmanship and
technique rather than on lifts or air steps. Short breakaways
are allowed along with separate entrances, but the majority of
the 1:45 - 3 minutes' emphasis should be on partnering and
content. Couples are asked to have a minimum of 75%
recognizable swing content.
A college team consists of a minimum of 8
dancers. Dancers perform a minimum of 60% recognizable swing
content. Spins, lifts, drops, air steps, acrobatics and
breakaways are all allowed. Formations should be emphasized.
No heavy metal or techno or jazz music not in the swing idiom
music allowed. Teams dance for 2-4 minutes. Individuals may
compete on up to 2 teams. Members are admitted from Saturday
evening at 7pm through Sunday.
All members must be members of The
AAU. (Memberships are $12 for individuals/$30 per team) .
A college team consists of a minimum of 8
dancers. Dancers perform a minimum of 60% recognizable swing
content. Spins, lifts, drops, air steps, acrobatics and
breakaways are all allowed. Formations should be emphasized.
No heavy metal or techno or jazz music not in the swing idiom
music allowed. Teams dance for 2-4 minutes. Individuals may
compete on up to 2 teams. Members are all purchasing a full
weekend pass. All members must be members of the
AAU. (Memberships are $12 for individuals/$30 per team).
The couples in this division dance
from 1:30-3 minutes to music 225+ bpm.
Open to Jills who want to show off
their leading ability. . Anything goes in this contest.
Dancers are not judged as a couple but must still show
teamwork, timing and technique.
Showcase definitions apply but are
not required of contestants aged 10-19 years.
Couples aged 35+ dance in this
division from 1:45 to 3 minutes. Showcase definitions apply
but are not required to compete.

Open Showcase asks for 60%
recognizable swing conent. All manner of lifts, drops and air
steps are allowed. Couples are judged on timing, technique,
musicality, showmanship and teamwork.
Couples consist of a professional
leader with an amateur follower. Lift and drop are allowed but
no air steps. In all other ways Classic rules apply.
Individual dancers compete showing
off there Charleston skills. Other dances from the period are
allowed. Judged on showmanship, projection, timing, technique
and musicality. All dancers are on the floor in one heat.
In this division couples may
perform any form of Balboa and Balswing. This is a lead/follow
contest so choreography is not allowed. Show your best timing,
technique, teamwork and footwork to do well in this division
with the partner of your choice.
Performed in a heat couples may
perform any form of Lindy. Thisis a lead/follow contest so
choreography is not allowed. Show your bst timing, technique,
teamwork, footwork and musicality with the partner of your
choice.
solo or duo
This division is open to dancers doing any
style of tap dance. Swing is not allowed in this division. Any
genre of music may be used. Time limit is 1:30 to 3:00
minutes.
